swing time

details:skirt-old navy/tank&sandals-target/cardi-gap/belt-anthro
Time flies when you have a long holiday weekend! Does anyone else feel slightly
off balance!?

When I dug this skirt out of the closet this morning I realized that this was the skirt I was wearing when
we found our house almost 7 years ago!
It's a good thing I hoard save things;)
You never know what's gonna come back in style.

After looking at these pictures I'm not totally in love with this outfit, but I got
dressed and took pics today....baby steps, people:)
I'm just getting back into the blogger swing of things!

rules are made to be broken

details:dress-uo/cardigan-target/tights-old navy/boots-nine west via tj maxx

These days I seem to find most fashion rules ridiculous. I think as long as you feel good in what you're wearing and it fits properly, wear what you want! Most of the time when I'm getting dressed I think" do I like it?" instead of "does it match?". The whole navy shouldn't be worn with black and black shouldn't be worn with brown thing...yeah..out the window with this outfit:D Navy, black, brown, gray and a touch of sparkle on the cardigan for a little attitude.

The hubby is taking me out for a salted caramel hot chocolate so we'll talk tomorrow, same bat time, same bat channel!

pattern play

details:dress-vintage/cardi-target/shoes-kate spade/tights-target/belt-f21

I'm so bummed these pictures didn't turn out better because I'm kind of in love with this outfit.

I stalked this dress on etsy for about a week and then I bit bullet and bought it. It has a high neckline and collar which can be tricky for me{I feel like it makes my face look fuller. Or maybe that's from all the crap I've been eating lately!}. I may end up taking it to a seamstress and changing the neckline a bit. I love the blues and purples in the plaid. Is it natural to think you can pair leopard print with plaid? No! Did that stop me from doing it? Absolutely not! I added these ivory tights because this outfit so obviously needed another texture/pattern:D

Yesterday we were treated with some snow. It looked like we were living inside of a snow globe! You know what that means for the kids, snow day. Awesome...for them:( Being a parent gives you a totally different perspective on snow days, especially when this is their last week of school before the holiday break.

I only wore these heels for pictures. The rest of the day I wore my fuggs(which keep my feet toasty!). I also had a full on allergy attack this afternoon. My nose is now red and my eyes are a red, puffy, runny-gross, I know-mess. It ain't pretty people. It's now time for some tea and a benydryl haze. Have a lovely evening:D

lots of layers

     details:skirt~anthropologie/shirt-walmart/sweater-f21/tights-target/shoes-f21/bag-jcrew/fur wrap-mom's vintage

Hey all! I don't have much to say today. I'm still not feeling well:( To be perfectly honest I put this on for a few hours to run some errands and I am now safely cocooned in my bed wearing my hubby's t shirt and a pair of yoga pants. I will probably spend the rest of the day drinking tea and trying to get rid of whatever has settled in my chest making my life miserable.I have so much to do and I really don't have time to be sick!

After a prolonged Indian summer the cold is finally here to stay. I wanted to wrap myself in as many layers as possible. This sweater is a tad bit bulky so instead of struggling into a coat I decided to try to wear this wrap I got from my mom. I definitely feel like this outfit is veering into the eccentric librarian.crazy cat lady/ Margot Tenebaum category but I'm kind of okay with it:)

ps-For some reason my pictures didn't load yesterday and I tried to fix it blogger ate my post.Boo!

hello, weekend

details:sequin shrug~f21/blouse~tucker for target/jeans~converse/shoes~seychelles

Friday, where have you been? This feels like the longest week ever! I was supposed to spend the weekend in Memphis but a sick kid trumps girly bonding when you're a mother. My friends daughter wasn't feeling well yesterday and it's gotten worse over night so our road trip is hold:( I'm bummed but what are ya gonna do?

Nothing cheers a girl up like a sparkle! Am I right? This little sequin shrug is way old. So old that I'd given it to my daughter. She left it behind when she went to school so I reclaimed it:D It was the perfect topper for my new Tucker for Target blouse. When this collection was released, I wanted one of everything. I exercised some self control and bought two tops. The other day I wandered into Target and found this top on the sale rack. It was $7.98!Score!! I wish I'd taken these pics at a different time so you could see the jeans a little better-but seriously I'm not gonna complain that it's a sunny 70 degrees in November. They're a light denim{something I haven't worn since the 80s} and a little distressed. They were another Target sale pick. Of course when I got them home they were too small! I'm happy to see they now fit perfectly:)

I thought I'd be spending my weekend with good food and my girlfriends. Since I'm on my own I'm off to stuff my face with some sushi and go see the new Rachel McAdams movie(because in my head we are totally friends!)

Have a happy weekend:)

hey miss american girl

The weekend was cold and gloomy. Of course this week indian summer will hit the Queen City and we will have temps in the 70s...ah Mother Nature you are soooo indecisive!

Anyway, I wore this Friday night to a pub with my husband. I loved it so much I wore it again on Saturday to run a few errands:) This trench is probably close to ten years old. I think I've worn it once but I had the good sense to hold onto it. One example of when my hoarding serves a greater good! When the husband saw me Friday night he told me I looked like a sexy spy;) speaking of the hubs...he came home one day and told me he had a surprise from Costco. I was expecting 200 hundred rolls of paper towels or a six month supply of tater tots. It was this sweater. Sweet..no? I have a feeling that a version of this outfit-skinny jeans, ladylike shoes, and a sweater-will be in heavy rotation on ye old blog. For some reason I felt effortlessly chic{a little bit classic american style mixed with a touch of european cool}. It must have been the trench coat;)

Hope your Monday is treating you well!

that is sooo yesterday!

details:top~ tucker for target/jeans~f21/shoes~steve madden

Today is cool and rainy so I've spent most of the day in yoga pants cleaning and surfing the internet for soup recipes:)

Yesterday was a perfect fall day-sunny with a little chill in the air. The hubby left me to watch football and obsess over his fantasy football team. I got dressed and spent a few hours with the John Hamm, Ben Affleck and Jeremy Renner...not too shabby;)

No romantic dinner with my man this weekend because my son dogsat for our neighbors, but we did get a little cuddle time watching Rubicon last night. Which by the way, is the best show we still can't understand! I think last night was the first time we watched and sort of got what was going on. It's actually kind of nice to watch a tv show that makes me really think about the plot and the characters.

seriously...i'm loving forever 21 these days(i pretty much love them all the time). i have found some fantastic skirts from their twist collections. this skirt is so cute and really well made. my one complaint is that the crinoline rides up a bit and it's a little on the short side. i have been looking for the polka dot tights that have been popping up all over the blogosphere. i was actually looking for some that were a little more sheer. these are more of a mesh with polka dots. i found these while christmas shopping for my daughters. i had a coupon so they'll do for now. i found this sweater in target. it is super soft. i bought it a few sizes up because i wanted it to be more on the slouchy side. to add a little spice i paired the look with these funky suede harajuku lovers shoes. after looking at the pictures i'm not sure if i like them with this outfit.

i'm finished shopping for christmas!! i can't believe i'm finished. i started wrapping gifts last night and i'm hoping that all the wrapping will be done by sunday. my last christmas related chore was sending out the christmas cards. i put those in the mail this morning. i have to pat myself on the back for being so ahead of the game. tonight it's cookie baking time...yum!! have a wonderful thursday!

it's been a busy week. i can't believe it's thursday! the post for yesterday never happened:( it's written but the photos never got uploaded so hopefully i can do that at some point today. at some point in my shopping binge i made my way over to anthropologie. i was actually looking for a specific skirt to try on but they didn't have it in stock yet so i spent some time browsing the sale section. i've been looking for a lovely yellow frock and i'd seen this one online but i was shocked to find one left in the store in my size..a gift from the shopping gods..no? i have mixed feelings on sweater dresses. i love them on other people but i've never found one that looked that great on me. i love that this has the softness of a sweater dress with out all the cling. this outfit was inspired by the recent fall ad campaign for kate spade so i knew i was going to wear red tights. i opted for the leopard print shoes because (1) i'm trying to break them in before the concert on saturday night and (2)the made the look a little funkier than a solid black or metallic shoe might. i have fallen hard for the look of a cinched waist. this faux leather bow belt is a little bit tough and a little girly all at the same time. i found the belt and the scarf while taking my daughters shopping for their homecoming outfits. i can't tell you how much i adore this coat from br. i can't remember how long i've had it (5 yrs?) but it is one of my favorites. the shape is kind of 50s/60s but the print is modern.

...there is invariably something odd about women who wear ankle socks

i was so thrilled to see the ankle sock make a comeback in the jcrew catalog. although many may find that this not exactly the most wearable trend but i was willing to give it a try. i also came across the the lovely katy and her blog, kansas couture(which is fantastic and you should go check it out right now if you haven't), and she has a post where another blogger requested that she give this look a whirl. she created her own interpretation of a jcrew/socks with jeans outfit. well, this is my attempt to recreate the look.
yesterday, i was killing time(and my budget) in anthropologie and i discovered several things i'd been watching were now on sale! i tried this blouse on when it first hit anthro earlier in the summer and completely dismissed it because i didn't think the fit was very flattering. i think i must have tried on the wrong size because when i put this on yesterday i loved it. i was thinking of pairing it with a jacket but it supposed to warm up here today and i thought i would be too hot. i bought these shoes from bebe a few years ago. have you noticed that i have an obsession with metallics, especially when they have that sort of crackled and aged finish. this outfit may be a little casual for work but since i'm only in the office for a few hours today i wasn't too concerned. i'm not sure it's a look that everyone will like but i think it's kind of cute.
