mini me

Just time for a quick post today. I think I mentioned that Doug's brother is getting married on Saturday. I volunteeered to do the flowers for the bridal party. I spent the day working on the bouquets for the bridesmaids and the corsages for the mothers. Can I just tell you how happy I am in a room full of flowers!!

I needed to be comfortable. And, I know most people don't think of sequins mini skirt and chunky sweater when they think of comfortable clothing but you know the saying "one woman's sweat pants is another woman's sequin mini skirt"...totally paraphrasing;)Ha!

I hope to post some pictures of the flower later. Right now I'm exhausted and looking forward to the finale of Project Runway.Team Mondo!!!

Hello there:) How's your week shaping up? Thanks to everyone that left birthday wishes for my daughter. I can't believe she's 19!! I must be getting old.  The weekend and Monday were super busy. Yesterday was cold and rainy. The perfect day to be a little lazy and catch up on some chores.

Today is the first day I've had this week to take proper pictures. It's kind of nice to get back into the swing of things:) I bought this dress on sale last week. It has been on my fall wishlist for a long time. And let's face it, I've never meet a shirtdress I didn't like! The colors are a little bit muted but I'm okay with that. These redish tights always make me feel like a super hero.I'm hoping the colored tights and booties give it a little bit of an edge...or as much of an edge that I can muster. I'm off to try and be productive today...ha! Have a wonderful Wednesday:)

wish you were here

Hey all! How's your Friday going? I'd like to say we have plans for a big night on the town but the truth is we'll order pizza and catch up on episodes of Dexter. We certainly know how too live it up? Ha! My daughter is coming home from school tomorrow. Her birthday is Tuesday so we're going to celebrate Sunday with a family dinner.

After spending the morning around the house I decided to get dressed and interact with the world. I love to read. I used to read an average of two books per week but lately I've been lazy and haven't had much of an attention span. It's been easier to be lazy and mindlessly watch television. I took myself to a proper coffee shop with one of the many books taking up residence on my nightstand. I spent an hour and a half with a good strong cup of coffee and focused on my book. It was fantastic!

I think I've been inspired heavily by the 70s lately. I can't get enough of the all American cool that comes to mind when I think of the 70s. I found this jacket the other day at a local vintage/consignment store and fell in love! I think it pretty much goes with everything in my closet. I love it paired with the gray in this outfit. This fantastic skirt is from dear golden etsy store. It is made of the most fantastic tweed-y knit material. The waist is a little big but that allowed me to cinch with my new favorite sparkly belt:) I wish you could see the print better on the cardigan. It's the "wish you were' cardigan. The print is made of all these vintage postcard images. Oh how I miss the days of personal mail.

Have a wonderful weekend!

to make a long story short

details:cardigan~anthropologie/blouse~jcrew/shorts&belt~f21/tights~?/shoes~steve madden

Today has been one of those glorious days where I have this moment of clarity and realize that life isn't perfect but it's pretty freakin' awesome right now.

This afternoon I had another blogger meet up(yay!) and had so much fun hanging out at a local boutique- I'm going to do a separate post about it. Then I spent some quality time with my mom, which is always good for the spirit. My relationship with my mom hasn't always been easy but I'm so lucky to still have both my parents and I don't what to waste time rehashing the past.

So, the tights and shorts thing...I'm not sure if it's for me. I really like how this outfit came together but I was aware all day of how short these shorts are.

Have a lovely evening:)

Full disclosure: I spent most of the day in my pjs watching episodes of  Top Chef:Just Desserts. I fully intended to stay that way but because I feeling guilty I decided to get up, take a shower, and...put on another pair of pajamas.Ha! Then my daughter called and said she'd gotten sick at school and wanted to come home. I threw this on to go pick her up from school and to run to the grocery store. I wish you could see that the front of the sweatshirt is covered in tiny little sequins.Swoon!

What organic, gourmet and totally good for you meal am I making for my family tonight...sloppy joes!I think I am totally slacking in the mom department today but that's okay. it happens to the best of us:)

Enjoy your hump day:D

Hey all! I hope your Tuesday is going well. I am in a much better mood today than I was yesterday. I gotta say nothing makes me feel better than wearing one of my favorite dresses:) Pretty dress plus sparkly awesome belt makes me very happy.

I volunteered to help my soon to be sister in law with some wedding related crafts. I think my fingertips have been permanently scarred from my glue gun! Their wedding is in 11 days and I'm trying to finish before the end of week so she knows everything is done and it's one less thing on her to-do list. Have a fantastic afternoon and if you haven't already entered the giveaway don't forget to leave comment on yesterday's post to enter:)

manic monday

                             details:cami~turcker for target/cardigan~gap/jeans~f21/boots~target/knee socks~?

Another Monday. Sometimes I feel energized, ready to take on the week and deal with any challenges that come my way. This is not one of those days! I'm in some sort of strange mood. Not upset or depressed but more ...I don't know analytical. There are things going on in the world that scare me, make me sad and sometimes angry. There are things that people say that I try to brush away as nonsense but I think they burrow under the surface and gnaw at my spirit. Today is one of those days where all of those things kind of bubble up to the surface and remind that life isn't always pretty and shiny.

Anyway, I don't want to ramble on about my, whatever this is, and I certainly don't want to Debbie Downer for all of you that are having a wonderfully, fantastic Monday:) There is nothing remarkable about this outfit. I have a ton of errands and some crafting to do today and I just need to be comfortable. I have to say I love this Tucker for Target top. The butterfly print is a little whimsical but the color palette makes it a little moody.

And in other news....Mad Men...anyone? Ohmygosh!!!Last night was so good!!!

love story

details:shirt~f21/cardigan~anthropologie/jeans~f21/clogs~steve madden/jewelry~f21

This week has flown by in the blink of an eye! I've been enjoying the beautiful weather. The hubby and I have been taken long lunches, gone apple picking, and gone on long bike rides. It's been glorious!

The perfect fall weather and seeing Ali McGraw and Ryan O'Neal on Oprah inspired me to channel my inner Jennifer Cavelleri. Ohmygosh if you haven't seen this movie you must! The flared jeans, plaid shirt and clogs have that 70s americana vibe. The beret, jewelry and ribbon tied in a bow at the neck give it kind of a modern twist.

Have a fantastic weekend!

when bloggers meet

Happy Tuesday!

Saturday I met up with the lovelyKristina. I was so nervous. I have to say that I had no reason to be nervous. She is so sweet and gorgeous! We met at Rookwood Anthropologie. We probably spent the first 30 minutes sitting on the sofa chatting. It was fantastic to talk about blogging, juggling blog with family, the suburbs and trying to find a creative outlet. Kristina talked to the manager and got permission for us to try on a bunch of things and take some photos inside the store(thank you Rookwood Anthro!). We got a few "what the heck are they doing?" looks from shoppers. We were also able to find a couple unsuspecting husbands to act as our photographers:D

I'm so in love with this crocheted clouds dress and the pick a bunch cardigan!

Kristina I had such a great time! I hope(now that our husbands are reassured that neither of us is some sketchy perv masquerading as a blogger)we can meet up again:)

I also want to say Hello to all the new readers and followers!! I've reached more than 100 followers...seriously..wow! I'm thinking I need to do a giveaway..yes?!!Details coming soon:D

longshot

I'm sure this is a total long shot but I am searching for this Anthropologie dress. I believe it's from winter/holiday 2009. It's the Glimmering Magnolia dress(#930112). I need a size 2 but I could work with a 4. If you're interested in selling yours or can help me find one I will be forever grateful! Thanks:)

greige

details:maxi skirt~f21/ tank~gap/cardigan~anthropologie/shoes~f21

Today's outfit in shades of grey and beige is almost like a palette cleanser from yesterday. As much as I love vibrant color and pattern sometimes it's nice to be still. I finally figured out that while neutral for some means black, for me it most often means grey, brown or sometimes navy.

Anyway, today is supposed to be another really warm day-80 degrees, seriously! I wanted to wear something easy, a little quiet without being boring. I fell in love with this skirt a few weeks ago. The maxi skirt is one of those things I really love...on others. Being a shortie means that sometimes things only work in theory. I was afraid it would be too long. I tried it on, liked it but second guessed myself. I ended up leaving it in the store and almost immediately regretting it. I was surprised to see it when I went back a week and half later. I'm really happy I decided to get it. I'm sort of in love with the soft-flowy-drapey-ness of it.

The fact that it's Friday hasn't escaped my attention:) Do you have any fun weekend plans? The husband and I are going to try to go see The Social Network. We've been trying to see it for a week but have yet to make it to the theater. We're also going to attempt to have a night out. I hope we can get our act together and make it out. We'll see!

I'm also having my first blogger meet up Saturday!!! How exciting is that? I'm meeting the lovely
Kristina. I'm super excited and a little bit nervous! We're going to do a little bit of shopping and I'm sure take a few pictures;)Have a happy weekend!

over the rainbow

details:dress~anthropologie/cardigan&necklace~f21/leggings~wal-mart/shoes~steve madden

Where has the week gone? I can't believe it's almost Friday! I'll make this short because I have so much to do. My sinus/ear infection has given me the perfect excuse to put off all the chores I should have been doing all week. It seemed like a good idea at the time but now I have laundry to do, bathrooms to clean and the always fun task of figuring out dinner.

Yesterday I stopped into Anthropologie to check out the sale section. This dress had been on my wishlist for awhile but it got bumped. I mean really how many shirtdresses does one girl need? Well, it was $30 so, yeah it was coming home with me:D Since summer refuses to leave it's warm enough to wear it. It's a fairly light weight cotton but even when it gets a bit cooler I should be able to layer it over a turtleneck and tights. Today I paired it with black leggings and this funky f21cardigan. I love the cocoon like shape but I never know how to style it. A small confession- housework doesn't really require heels so those have been swapped out for a pair of black flats:)

mustard

details:dress&cardigan~anthropologie/boots&belt~target/necklaces~f21

I'm so happy I didn't scare you off with chipmunk face:) And thank you for all of your speedy recovery wishes! So the news from the doc, I have a major sinus infection plus an ear infection. I had a really bad headache and some intense pain in my ear a few days ago but since it didn't last very long I kind of ignored it. The doctor gave me a major a speech on how pain is the body's way of telling you something is wrong and I really need to pay attention to those signals. She gave me some heavy duty antibiotics, which are making my stomach feel, hmmm, not very good, but the swelling is down(thank goodness!). I should be as good as new in a few days.

I just wanted to feel comfy today. I bought this dress last year at Anthropologie for dirt cheap. It totally changed the way I thought about sweater dresses. I was still thinking of shoulder-padded, clinging in all the wrong places, spanks required kind of dresses until I stumbled on this beauty. It's so soft and fairly flattering with the wrap detail at my natural waist. I usually dress it up with tights and heels but today it's comfort all the way.I added one of my favorite cardigans, the leopard bow belt for a little sass and boots. At this point I think I've become addicted to pattern mixing. I think it makes my outfits more interesting. I'm sure one day I'll look at some of these pictures and think "Why do I look like the crazy cat lady?"

in the navy

details:dress~vintage/belt&tights~f21/shoes&cardigan~anthropologie

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a lovely weekend. My daughter and her best friend came home for the weekend. It was fantastic to hang out with them and get the scoop on all of the college shenanigans! It seems like they are having the best time(already) and that makes me sooo happy!

It definitely feels like fall here. After the sweltering summer, I'm enjoying the cooler temperatures. What I'm not loving....I woke up yesterday morning the left side of face was swollen(you can totally tell in this picture..boo!)...what the what?! I thought that maybe it was a sinus issue. I took some sinus medicine, iced my face and thought the swelling would go down. Yeah, not so much. This morning I still look like a chipmunk. The doctor thinks it could be an infection. So instead of a lunch date and a matinee with my husband, I'm off to figure out what is wrong with me:(

Chipmunk face or not, I've been dying to wear this cute little vintage dress. It's a little sheer but these textured tights cover me up a bit and are keeping me warm. I added the "go with everything" cardigan. This sweater was purchased as kind of an after thought but it has become one of the most versatile things in my closet.

Have a wonderful day:D

cardigan casual

details:cardigan~anthropologie/jeans&necklace~f21/cami~express/shoes~seychelles

Thank you guys so much for all of the supportive comments yesterday:) The blogs that I love to read always have a little bit of a personal tone to them and I guess that's why I keep reading. And, I guess I'll continue to talk about what feels comfortable. I believe there is some value in talking about "real life" and how hard it is to balance children and marriage, how I'm trying to handle aging(something that secretly freaks me out) with some grace, and how I'm still trying to figure lots of things out. Of course feel free to scroll past all of the personal stuff and look at the clothes;)

My daughter is home from school for the weekend. I'm excited to have her home for a few days and to meet her new bestie Aaron:) We're grilling pizzas...yum! My favorite toppings-caramelized onions, roasted red peppers and prosciutto. So, so good!  Have a fantastic weekend:D
