orange crush

details:blouse-jcrew/cardi,skirt&belt-anthro/tights-target/booties-aldo

Today is a well deserved day off! I'm exhausted but happy to be spending the day with the husband.
Sunshine and warm temps have decided to make a cameo appearance. Bright and cheerful was the order for the day. Enter, the most obnoxiously vibrant skirt I own! It really is kind of traffic cone orange and I'm okay with it:) And what goes with orange? Mint green and polka dots, of course! I wish I had a better detail shot of the top. It's kind of a creamy ivory with tiny polka dots. But, I was in such a hurry to enjoy my afternoon that I didn't feel like retaking the pics.

Speaking of pictures...I usually take my own pics with a camera, tripod and self timer but today i asked my husband to take them. At the last minute I chickened out because I thought it would be too awkward. He threatened to turn on a fan, mist me with water and scream things 'like make love to the camera!" at me. Ha! He cracks me up but I think I'll stick to taking them myself:D

Enjoy the rest of your evening friends.

red-y,set,go

Andie a member of Friend Friday wanted to do something special to promote Feburary as Heart Healthy month. Going along with the AHA fabulous "Going Red" Campaign it was decided that we would wear red every Fiday in Febuary.

I was shocked to learn that heart disease is the prevailing cause of death for African-American women. It is so important that we educate ourselves about the benefits of a healthy diet and excercise. As a wife and a mother, I realize that most of the time we put ourselves at the bottom of the priority list. If we want to take care of our families, we have to start taking care of ourselves!
I'm so happy to be able to participate.
Thanks Andie for such a fantastic idea!

Red is one of my favorite colors! I know lots of us are afraid to wear it because it commands attention. But, I think every women looks beautiful in red. Today, let's add a little red{dress, lipstick, nails, whatever}.

This dress is one of my all time favorite purchases. I adore the vibrant print and color but the silhouette makes a little more lady like and a little less look at me{i think}.

Thank you all for your sweet words yesterday. They most definitely helped:)
Tomorrow morning the husband and I are going for a quick getaway. I wish we could jet off to someplace warm and sunny but sadly that's not possible:( So no sunny skies but lots of alone time with my favorite guy, a little shopping and a glorious Sunday brunch{my all time fave meal!!}

Have a fantastic weekend! See you on the other side;D

going brogue

finally friday!!! i don't have much to post. i'm not really in the best of moods. i didn't sleep well. then i logged on to facebook and a friend(an actual friend not just a six degrees of separation facebook friend) left a comment on my wall that was hurtful or not constructive at the very least. oh, facebook why can't i quit you!!
i have a quick stop in the office and i'm off for the rest of the afternoon. i hope my mood gets better. anyway, quick outfit deets. yes, these are the same jeans i wore yesterday. and, yes, they may become my new favs despite my daughter's insistence that they were floods! this tunic is four or five years old. it was when bebe was having one of their "not everyone wants to look like a kardashian sister" moments. i adore it. i saved it even when weight gain made it impossible to wear. i'm so glad it fits again. i'm trying to stick to my word about giving my feet and knees a rest and wearing flats. i love the brogues trend but i wasn't sure if it was a look for me. my legs are short and a little thick so i feel like i tend to look stumpy in flats. gilt was having a fab sale and i really loved the metallic sheen and the fact that these were laceless. they were sold out of my usual size 7 so i sized down to a 6.5. these fit perfectly. they are so comfy and easy to slide on. my feet are happy campers right now:)
have a wonderful weekend!

wedding day accessories

i'm rarely seen without a cardigan. why would the wedding day be any different? i'm considering this lovley from anthro for the party portion of evening but i'm worried that the ruffle detail will be too much with the top of the dress.

i have a pearl bracelet already but it seems so boring. this is amazing! but is it too much?

i think this may be the perfect wedding day bracelet, but there are no reviews of it and they don't have it in my local store. i've been waiting patiently for it to go on sale but it's still at it's regular price...$198...ouch! :(

i was determined to get shower, get dressed, dig my way out of the snow and become part of the human race again!

it was freezing but at least the sun was out. at least that was what i kept telling myself as i was freezing my face pumping gas this morning. oh to go back to more civilized times where you pulled into a gas station and a nice attendant came out pumped your gas, checked your oil and washed your windows. i don't remember those times but i've been told they were fabulous;) i feel kind of like a proper lady in this outfit. this dress manages to make me look put together while being extremely comfortable. the leopard belt gives it a little sass and the grey cardigan is a more interesting neutral than black or brown(which would have a little too matchy matchy for me). these sweet little metallic "ballet" pumps were my favorite neutral shoe until my beloved nude steve maddens stole their thunder...ha! i think they were outrageously priced to begin with but somehow i managed to get them on sale. this morning my dad told me i liked pretty(thanks dad!). no matter how old i get that always makes me smile.

i'm off to work out and then it's project runway for me! have a lovely evening:)

the kids are spending the weekend with my parents! thanks mom and dad for the mini break. doug works on saturdays so i had the house all to myself!! that rarely happens. i took advantage of my free time by lounging around the house, reading magazines, surfing the internet and of course i played my glee soundtracks as loud as i wanted while cleaning;)

tonight we are going to our neighbors house for drinks and dinner. i wanted to wear something a little casual but kind of flirty too. i really like the combination of the mint color with mustard yellow. i hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

grandma chic

yesterday was a snow day! the kids didn't have school, i called into to work and doug worked from home. it is kind of nice to be snowed in with your family. i mostly lounged, drank coffee and tried to make a dent in the stack of magazines and books on my nightstand. i always think that the first day of a snowfall is a little bit magical. today it's back to the daily grind, although it's a friday! today's outfit is built around another rodarte dress. it reminds me of a polly flinders dress i had as a kid-i'm sure that reference totally dated me. does anyone even still dress their kids in those dresses? one of my all time favorite color combinations is pale blue with red. i knew right away i wanted to pair this dress with red tights for the winter but i needed something to pull the whole thing together. then i found this sweater the other day at the gap. i said i wasn't going to shop this month but honestly they are having a huge sale and this sweater was an additional 40% off. it ended up being something like $9! i think it does a great job of marrying the reds and the blues. it also makes the outfit a little less "girly". once again i belted the cardigan to make it less bulky and give me a little definition in the waist. it's like 15 degrees here today and i braved the cold to take outside photos! it wasn't too bad. these were taken on our front porch and i'm sure the neighbors now think i'm insane:) i know that there are people with some strong opinions about fur. would i buy a new fur coat? probably not, but my mom found this vintage one for me at a thrift store and i fell in love with it instantly. it kind of reminds me of the one carrie wore in sex and the city. i don't wear it very often because it seems a little over the top(even for me) which is a shame because i really love it and it's soooo warm.
doug's dad and stepmom are in town so we'll have his family over tomorrow night. we're doing a homemade pizza buffet! i've been dying to see up in the air. i'm hoping i can convince my honey to brave the cold for dinner and amovie tonight. other than that no big plans for the weekend.

blah!

anthropologie's flight-of-the-swans dress originally $298 on sale for $149.95

it was bitterly cold, rainy and windy this morning. i have major cramps(tmi..i'm sure) and feel totally blah! the only thing that made me want to get out of bed this morning was this lovely little frock. it went on sale yesterday. i called the store and they have one dress left and it's my size!! it must be fate. i'm returning a skirt i bought two weeks ago which makes me look "stumpy" according to my daughters. the horror!!! after work i get to make my exchange and take my sweet flight of the swans dress home...where i will collapse on the sofa with a cup of peppermint tea, a stack of magazines and a heating pad.
