randomness...

saturday morning we went to our local farmer's market where we met a lovely girl that lives on a farm and grows acres and acres of lavender. i was instantly jealous and then instantly hated myself for being jealous because she was such a lovely person.

my oldest daughter had her first audition for a school play. she got the role of a fairy in the bard's a midsummer nights dream. i am so excited for her and proud of her.

i met up with some friends form high school. it was really fun and made me feel like i was sixteen all over again but in the best possible way. i also developed a small and harmless crush on a few of the guys that were there. they reaffirmed my notion that good guys outnumber the assholes you just have to know where to look. they also explained fantasy football to me in way that i completely understand.

despite the fact that i am now photographing myself nearly everyday i'm still not pleased with the way i look but i have resolved to get over this.

kanye west is a douche-nozzle! what kind of grown ass man jumps up onstage and humiliates a teenager? this may become a case of "love the sinner hate the sin" or in his case love the music but hate the d-bag.

on monday when the sun is hot

the details:
dress~twelve by twelve~f21
cardigan~merona~target
shoes~steve madden

i've had this dress all summer and it's been hanging in the closet, tags attached, unworn. i'm not sure why i've been saving it. anyway, i couldn't think of a better dress to help me attack work week than fierce animal print. i was slow to fall for the bootie craze but i'm a convert. i bought these at steve madden a few weeks ago. they were some kind of spin the wheel sale. my spin landed on 40% which meant these boots were super reasonable! one day i will have toned arms that will make michelle obama proud but until then i have a million cardigans to rock.

i got together with some old friends from high school this weekend and it was an absolute blast. i did my version of one of the rock/prep outfits from lucky and of course i forgot my stinkin' camera. i loved the outfit even though d thought the skirt was too short. i may go home and recreate the outfit so that i can post a picture.

i will not retire while i've still got my legs...

details:
dress/jacket/cocktail ring~ f21
belt~old navy
tights~target
shoes~kate spade

there was a crispness in the air this morning-i could wear tights without dying from the heat and humidity. i have always loved the look of colored tights with clothes but in the past i hesitated to wear anything other than black or navy because i felt that it might be too young of a look for me to pull off. on a whim last winter i bought these royal blue tights, most likely because they were on sale for $1.99. i never wore them. i think the dress looks better with the tights than it did when i wore it with sandals and bare legs this summer. i adore my members only-esque jacket. the more i wear it the more i love it. my dad is a preacher which meant every sunday was an all day church event. fall meant new black patent leather shoes with a giant grosgrain bow on the top and in the spring i would get the exact same pair in white patent leather. these kate spade shoes remind me on sunday shoes and for that reason they will never go out of style for me.

What I'm Wearing

Details:
Cardigan-The Gap
Blouse-The Gap
Skirt-F21
Necklace-Target
Shoes-Jessica Simpson peep toes-even though you can't see them

yesterday's blah gave way to a glorious today. as a kid I can clearly remember my mom dressing up to take me everywhere. we had matching outfits that we wore for some of these occasions. anyway, today i have to take my son for a flu shot and a checkup and i can still hear my mom whispering"look nice. wear something other than jeans" in my ear.

i found this skirt a few weeks ago at f21. i loved the color and the pattern. the $13 price made it a "oh hell yeah" purchase. i think it will cheer up when paired with tights and a sweater when beautiful fall days turn to bitterly cold winter days. the blouse is about a million years old. funny what you find when you clean out the closet. the cardigan is a few years old from the gap. i have a thing for cable knit and plaid that must linger from my prep school days. my favorite thing about this outfit is the necklace, which i didn't even get a great shot of, from target. i don't know if it was from one of their designer jewelry collections but i love it.

*i really am working on taking better pictures*

What I'm Wearing

Top~Anthropologie

Cardigan~Kohl's Elle Collection

Jeans~Joe's Jeans~Skinny

Boots-Aldo

Necklace~Anthropologie

Tuesdays that feel like Mondays depress the hell out of me even though it means I have a short work week. I couldn't figure out what to wear this morning. I'm feeling blah and even though it supposed to warm up today I don't think the sun is going to make an appearance. I put this together in about five minutes and I think it shows:( Oh well. I do love these boots and at least I'll be comfortable for the rest of the day.

Bits of Lovliness

Sheer exhaustion and a mean case of the blahs have kept me from doing anything creative with flowers for a few weeks. Yesterday on the way home I managed to stop at Trader Joe's to see what floral yumminess they had. I picked a bouquet of irises, sunflowers and a mixed bouquet with some assorted flowers and a few red sunflowers. I finally used on of garden urns I picked up at Michael's for $5 at the end of season sale last summer. This is what I came up with. It's not bad for a 2 a.m. project.

What I'm Wearing

Blouse-Banana Republic
Skirt-The Limited
Cardi-F21
Belt-Old Navy
Shoes-Kat Spade

It's finally Friday!!! It seems like this has been the longest week ever. Yesterday, I was exhausted mentally and physically. D and I had a much needed an impromptu date last night. I am so happy that this is a long weekend. Anyway, today's look...I think it has a bit of a quirky librarian vibe to it. I love the print of this skirt. It makes me think of a moody artists canvas. I bought it last summer and it is now two sizes too big so I added the belt. I've had this blouse forever. It is sheer and I didn't feel like looking for a tank so I feel a little bare but whatever..it's Friday! The cardigan is another from F21. I think I paid all of $5 for it. I love the ombre effect and thought that it provided an interesting detail to the outfit. Oh how I love these shoes. They are Kate Spade and I got them on super clearance at Macy's. I don't wear them much anymore but I thought I would break them out today before summer is over. I think that I've been falling into the "matchy-matchy" rut lately. I'm challenging myself to be more interesting and remember that things should blend and not necessarily match.
