the result-first florist job

A few weeks ago I was contacted to do flowers for an 8oth birthday party. The birthday girl celebrated with her family Saturday.

These are some of the arrangements I designed. Because I'm kind of a novice I thought simple would be best. I did three large arrangements with baby's breath(which I'm loving!!!They looked like a beautiful cloud!) and several small arrangement with my favorites, blue hydrangea! I also decorated the fireplace of the venue with a baby's breath garland(but forgot to take pics..oops!)

I was very nervous and really wanted them to love everything. They did! Even though my stomach was in a nervous knot, I had such a wonderful time working and creating.

a little bit of lovliness

i made this centerpiece for daughter's birthday dinner a few weeks ago but i'm just now getting a chance to post it. did anyone watch flowers uncut last night on tlc? ah-maz-ing!! those and arrangements and creativity make my little arrangement seem a little sad. despite their lack of over the top-ness(i'm pretty sure i just made that word up), they make me smile. happy almost friday people!!!

Bits of Lovliness

Sheer exhaustion and a mean case of the blahs have kept me from doing anything creative with flowers for a few weeks. Yesterday on the way home I managed to stop at Trader Joe's to see what floral yumminess they had. I picked a bouquet of irises, sunflowers and a mixed bouquet with some assorted flowers and a few red sunflowers. I finally used on of garden urns I picked up at Michael's for $5 at the end of season sale last summer. This is what I came up with. It's not bad for a 2 a.m. project.

A Bit of Lovliness

Hydrangea are my favorite. I know there are some snapdragons in there but I'm clueless about the other beauties. At the last minute I added some lavender for more texture and of course the lovely scent. I wanted to use a sweet little garden urn but was out of floral foam so I used my favorite milkglass pitcher. I want to challenge myself a little bit more next week. But for this week, I have this little bit of lovliness to make me smile

A Bit of Lovliness

I don't have a green thumb. I think the longest I've ever kept a plant alive was two months. I even managed to kill a cactus. But, I die for fresh cut flowers in the house. I ususally stop at TJs or the farmer's market to pick some up because they have have a great variety and a better price than the grocery superstores. Sunday I invited my sister over for brunch and needed to pick up a few things from the grocery store so I grabbed a bunch of white roses, these pink flowers(which may be a variety of mums)and some greens. It took me about 30 minutes to arrange them in my yard sale find milk glass compote. Because the container is fairly shallow I used floral foam to hold everything in place. I'm pretty pleased with way the arrangement turned out. I wish I'd purchased another bunch of flowers because I think there's too much filler but it's not to shabby.
