Confession: Every single time I get ready to make something I'm terrified!

I was drawn to the colors and textures of all of these elements. I wasn't sure how everything would look together. There are some more classic garden flowers-snapdragons,queen anne's lace and hydrangea-mixed with some things that I usually avoid-protea-and some new to me things-kangaroo paw and pink lepto.

It has an unusual composition that I really like.

Can we talk for a minute about the awesomeness of the elbow patches on this sweater? Ohmygosh I love them! This sweater came in a few other colors and I'm wondering why I didn't get them all:(

Two separate things in this ensemble are way old. I think I bought this vest from the Gap when my son was two or three. He just turned 15 so..yeah it's old(damn, so am I!!)

And, this marvelous Kate Spade tote was purchased maybe eight or nine years ago. I've been looking for a bag big enough to be my purse and roomy enough for me to carry my ipad. I forgot about this bag! It's back in the rotation.

Sunday was a cold and gray day. Thank you, January:( My husband suggested a trip to the Krohn Conservatory to check out the Early Spring Show. I think it was officially called the Early Spring Sparkle and Bling Show. I'm not sure what bling has to do with spring flowers. While we're at it, can we please add bling along with diva and man cave to the list of words that should be retired!

Anyhoo, the strands of sparkle certainly helped light up the gray sky!

I'm in love with citrus trees! I'm trying to convince Doug that we could have a Meyer lemon tree in our yard. Has anyone in the midwest had any success with lemon/lime trees?

I'm not a huge fan of tropical flowers but how can you not love orchids?

Succulents are huge trend in weddings and events. I'm dying to work with a couple that wants to use them in their wedding bouquets and centerpieces!

Am I in Cincinnati or Belize?!

The return of winter means indoor photos are back:( I wasn't able to capture the color of the sweater. It is highlighter green and I looove it! I had to talk my self out of wearing this outfit all weekend.

Saturday was freezing but I braved the bitter cold for a chance to hang out with my man. Ahh...the things we do for love! I am so happy that I'm no longer a 20something that feels the need to freeze my bits off in an attempt to look "hot" in the middle of winter.

This look is directly inspired by one of my recent pins(isn't pinterest the best time suck.ever?!)

Winter has finally arrived but instead of opting for blacks and greys, I decided for just a whisper of color. I'm still having a MAJOR romance with bright colors but lately more of this blush color has been popping up in my closet. Over the holiday I did a major closet overhaul and I'm embarrassed to admit there lots of things I'd forgotten about and almost as many things that had never been worn. This skirt was one of them. It's a bit ballerina girl, and, for the love of Lionel Ritchie, it doesn't really flatter my shape much,but if lovin it is wrong I don't wanna be right. Because sometimes a girl just needs to be dressed in tulle, ya know;)

Happy New Year!!!Expect to see more of !these in the new year

The Mayans have predicted the end of the world(as we know it, and I feel fiiiine!) and if this is indeed my last year on the planet I intend to make it a damn good one!

And, yes, it is absolutely cliche to post my list of resolutions but I'm ok with that.

So 2012, meet me at camera 3...

1. Operation Baby(aka...let's get it on!) We've been trying(sorta) to get pregnant for a bit. We haven't officially been told that we're fertility challenged but there are a few issues that are making it difficult for us to make a baby. This is the year we deal with those issues and get this baby thing happening. Seriously, we're not getting any younger!

2. Transition into working from home and officially launching my business. These last few months I've been putting lots and lots of effort into planning and developing my business. This is the year that I make it happen.

3. Workout at least three days a week. I can't believe I'm going to say this out loud for all of the interwebz to read, but I feel better/stronger/more relaxed when I workout! I usually go balls to the wall for a few months and then burn out. Must remember...moderation

4.Menu plan and eat better- I used to be really good at this but,um,I got lazy

5.Garden. We've been talking about planting a garden for years. I'm tired of paying through the nose for heirloom tomatoes dammit! This year I will have my own veggies and herbs!

6. Enjoy our city. Cincinnati is not New York or Chicago but I think it's so easy to get in the routine of never doing anything or constantly doing the same thing (rut...party of 2) So no more hangin in the burbs and watching NCIS marathons, it's time to explore the city!

7. Entertain more. Last year I was determined to bring back the old fashioned cocktail hour. So, it didn't happen. But this year, my friends, plenty of cocktail hours, game nights and movie nights to come!

8.Conquer my fear of baking. I'm kind of scatterbrained when it comes to baking. It's a little too exact for me and I've had a few baking disasters(can we please never mention the birthday cake disaster of 2009!?) that have scarred me! This year I will bake a souffle and bread among other things.

9. Invest in a fancy new camera ASAP. I think one of the many reasons I've been slacking on posting is because my current is such a pain to use. While I'm not exactly sure that taking pictures of myself warrants a several hundred dollar camera, I also plan on using it for my business. Over the past few weeks I've been really thinking long and hard about the direction I want to take this blog in(if I still have any readers left) and upping my photo game is an important piece of the equation.

10. Tackle some redecorating. I've been cheating on style blogs with design blogs! My personal style has evolved int the last few years and so has design aesthetic. It's time to give the house a little makeover. And yes honey, that includes a tile backsplash in the kitchen;)

11. Put myself out there more. Meeting people and taking some chances will be extremely important in terms of building my business

12. Nurture personal relationships. In other words, be a better wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend.

And with that 2012, bring it!!

Thanksgiving weekend I got to hang out with my three favorite girls! We've been friends since the 5th grade. In that 20+years we've seen each other through painful teenage love affairs, marriages, babies, divorces, horrible bosses, illness and everything in between!

C lives in Memphis, B has a little one, N has full life that includes a teenager and a demanding job and I moved to the burbs! Meet ups are few and far between(we need to work on that girls!!) but when we get together...watch out! There will be laughter, good food, lots of cocktails and one or two(hundred) inappropriate jokes;)

I wore this mullet dress because after eating my body weight in turkey and sweet potato pie I couldn't stomach(no pun intended!) the idea of squeezing myself into a pair of jeans..oy! Love the dress, hate my slouching:(

A few weeks ago I received an invitation to "Cocktails at Tiffany's". I was over the moon. I'm not sure how I got on the list but I couldn't wait to go!!

Disney may call itself the happiest place on earth but they've got nothin' on Tiffany's!!

Omygosh...the sparkle!!! I may have briefly considered selling a kidney to buy something(kidding-mostly!)

I thought I'd have time to post these on Tuesday but best laid plans....

The morning started off well-woke up, had coffee with my man, went to vote, took these pics-and I got a call saying I didn't need to go into to work until late afternoon...sweeet! I was all set to dive into my stack of seriously neglected periodicals, and my son walks in the door with a blood covered towel on his face!!Yeah, that's never a good sign.

He had a bike accident and apparently broke his fall with his face! There was kind of a big, gaping hole in his chin. Thankfully, he was wearing a helmet!

I thought that was the worst of it until we got to the ER and I found out it he'd broken his arm:( My poor baby!

All is (mostly) well. We go to the orthopedist tomorrow to get his cast, which he'll have to wear for 6-8 weeks.

*the kids were out of school Monday and Tuesday. In our district polling places are at all the schools and instead of trying to manage a million kids and people coming in out to vote, they just close the schools.

Hello November! When did you show up? Why is it that the older you get the faster time flies!?

And do you know what isn't helpful? Going to Starbucks and seeing the red Christmas cups...on November 1.

But then I had my very first peppermint mocha and all was forgiven;)

I have to admit that I didn't really get all fuss over the Missoni for Target collection. I guess I'm not a Missoni fan. But as I was strolling to the checkout line I noticed this skirt hanging alone and it was on sale. While I'm still not gaga for Missoni, I liked the colors and the price! It's a size large but it has a drawstring waistband and the I have belts, so problem solved.

This weekend Art in Bloom is going on at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Florists and floral enthusiast are able to pick a work of art and make an arrangement inspired by the piece.

Thank you so much for all of your words of encouragement on my last post!!!

Since I'm not working today I thought I'd break out these ridiculously high heeled booties. If lovin' 'em is wrong, I don't wanna be right:)

I've also forgotten how much effort it takes for me to move gracefully in heels. Did I ever tell you I'm a klutz?

So yesterday I had a conversation with a friend about how I put outfits together. Hmm, honestly these days there is no rhyme or reason. I usually have something I want to wear and I try to not look too ridiculous. Yup, that about sums it up. Wear something I like and try to avoid looking like an ass! Ha!Brilliant!!;)

We're headed out for dinner to celebrate my daughter's birthday. That's right she's turning the big 2-0!

I remember the day she was born so clearly. I was so excited to meet her! I was also terrified because I had absolutely no idea what the heck I was doing!!! I wanted to be the best mother possible. In some ways I've fallen very short of that goal. My one regret about having children so young isn't that I had them, it's that they had a mom that was still trying to figure out so much about herself:(

The last few weeks have been challenging.

I've been trying to focus on what I really want in terms of career and what that means for my family.

A few months ago, I had a conversation with a lady that I really admire. She basically has the job that I've been working on for myself. She is super talented and with a shit ton of hard work has become super successful in the local floral industry. We talked about lots of things, particularly about where I wanted to go with what I've been doing lately.

The fact of the matter is I want work for myself.

I want to work with couples to create events that reflect them-their personality, their style. I want to provide planning, florals and styling. This is a huge undertaking but it's something that I feel like I've been slowly running toward for a long time.

Starting a business takes a mountains of energy and cash. I have plenty of one and not enough of the other. I feel selfish asking my husband to dip into the savings to get this off the ground(especially when I have no real training!) My goal of working for myself from home so that I can get some balance in life and have a more flexible schedule for the baby we want to have(which isn't happening...another reason for some sadness around here)

Anyway, this wall of text is an explanation of sorts. Trying to come to the place where dreams and reality are not battling each other but balancing each is tough. Having all of these dreams and run full steam ahead and having that tempered with caution and a level head(neither of which is my strong suit) is a little disheartening.

If anyone other than my bff and my family have read this far....thank you!!!!

So yeah, there have some cute outfits that I've loved but I've been spending my time trying to work out a business plan and start up costs.

Anyhoo, I miss you guys!

Nothin' like a Monday to b***h slap you back to reality! Yesterday I had a lovely day at home with the husband. I even made the best caramel apple pie...ever!!! Which we totally ate as dinner-because I was too exhausted from baking to figure out the rest of dinner..oops;)

But today, my friends, I have the Monday-itchy, burning, watery-eyed, my allergies are killing me- blues!! My son had a doctor's appointment and I had to make a grocery run so not getting dressed wasn't an option. I started out with an entirely different look in mind but nothing was coming together. In times like this I rely on some old favorites. A comfy cardigan, cords and my favorite flat shoes.

Now it's time for a cup of tea and my allergy meds!

I feel like I'm on a roll! Maybe the cooler temps have inspired to actually get dressed and pull together a look instead of just trying to not to look like a hot mess in the heat and humidity. I forgot how much I adore tights. Yay for fall-cooler temps, boots, pumkin lattes, tights, and fall tv!!!

I got this skirt to wear out on our anniversary but this is the first time I've gotten to take a proper blog photo of it. It kind makes me wish I hadn't returned the crimson bubbles skirt:( Fellow Anthro lovers if you have that skirt and want to get rid of it send me an email;)

I went to a sweet little restaurant to have lunch with the hubby today. It would have been great if the two jerks at the table next to us weren't so freakin' loud!!! There were four people in the restaurant and we couldn't have a conversation because the other two were yuckin' it up like they had the place to themselves...rude!

Anyway, we're headed to get a pumpkin spice latte before pub trivia:)

I just started reading my September issues and I long for fall! There is a certain glamour that comes with rich fabrics and saturated color, and boots...oh how I've missed them! But, let's be honest, today temperatures were in the upper 80s, I'm exhausted from work, and putting on heels and skirt was more than I could handle! So, this is as good as it gets:) And, I'm totally okay with that!

Hey Y'all!! How was your weekend? Does anyone else think that sometimes weekends are more stressful than the work week? So much to do and only two days to do it! Lucky me I don't have to go back to work until Wednesday...don't hate;)

My birthday is this month...ick!(I'm not a person that loves to celebrate her birthday) But, that means my Anthro birthday discount...yay!!This year I got an additional 15% to use online...AWESOME!

I used my online discount for this adorbs sailboat skirt and the most awesome bag!!

I think I sometimes forget how dressing can affect my moods. Maybe I'm so grouchy because I don't get to dress up anymore! It's amazing what a cute new skirt and a pair of heels will do for a girl- a little sartorial prozac.

Happy Monday! Thank you for all of your sweet comments on my last post. Sometimes all you need is to vent a little bit to feel better.

Today was a much needed day off. It was spent lounging by the pool and catching up on my blog reading.

I also needed to finish reading the book for my book club. We choose Fitzgerald's The Beautifiul and the Damned. I loved Gatsby and This Side of Paradise but good grief this one was a tough read!!! Anthony and Gloria are two of the most unsympathetic characters. Ever!

Next up Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five.

Geez, I'm such a slacker this summer! The thing is, there's been a lot going this summer. Most of it not good. Part of my personality is to "be on" and to make sure everyone around me is happy. That can be utterly exhausting and it wears me out.

This is my round about way explanation for my lack of blogging. I can't really hide when I'm falling apart and I don't really want to use this as platform to bitch and whine and "poor me" so posting has been irregular.

That being said, when life hands you lemons, you put on your highest, spikiest heels and give it a good, hard junk kick!

I swear I haven't worn heels this high in weeks, but damn it felt good!

This weekend I'm headed to Columbus for a wedding. I'm officially old enough to be included on the parent guest list...eek! I'm not going as a guest of the bride or groom(although I've known the groom since he took his very first breath). The mother of the groom is one of my very best friends! I can't tell you how old that makes me feel :S

This weekend will be a mini reunion of sorts-seeing friends I haven't seen in years-and a chance to hang out with my favorite group of girls.

How is it Thursday already? Seriously!?

When the lovely Lisa updated her etsy shop with this gem of a dress I pounced! Sweet summer print, sheer and airy with a full skirt-Yes, please! I ripped open the package and pranced around the house feeling oh so pretty:) The fabric is sheer and for a night out I might put a pair of boy shorts on underneath and leave it at that.But for the sake of modesty I layered it over an Anthropologie skirt and was instantly work appropriate!

A busy day tomorrow requires a ton of sleep tonight.

It doesn't get any easier than this for a Friday morning. This dress has a loose fit that I kind of love. So you know, after I stuff my face with chips and guacamole and drink my body weight in sangria, I can take off the belt and still look cute-minus the salt bloat;)

I bought these shoes on our honeymoon. I was oddly attracted to them even though they were like nothing I own. I bought them and promptly forgot I owned them until this week when I was frantically searching for a closed toe shoe with a wedge heel to wear to work. Well heeeellllllo, slightly modified sandal!

Hey all! I hope you are well. It makes me sad panda that I've been neglecting this little space of mine:( I've been going through one of those periods were I'm not really wearing anything "special" or when I do manage to put together something blog-able(hmmmm...is that a word?) ~~I'm too lazy~~ I don't have my camera.

Another Monday....

Last night we saw Ray LaMontagne in concert. It was really one of the best shows I've seen in a long time.

It got me thinking about creativity....the people that create things-music,literature,art-that mean something. I think the whole disposable nature of our culture depresses me:(

I'm happiest when I'm doing something creative. I feel a plan coming together in my head but I haven't been able to make anything concrete out of it and that is incredibly frustrating!

So a while back the lovely Miss Eboni tweeted this Lauren Conrad dress. I was instantly smitten with the chiffon fabric and the sweet floral print. Once I got it, I thought it looked a little like a nightgown(cue sad face!)

Inspired by Eboni's styling yesterday, I decided to wear it last night to Playhouse in the Park. I wanted it to look more classic so I dug this decade old blazer out of the closet. What outfit doesn't need a little bit of Ms. Bradshaw? So I added the oversize flower and tried my hand at the loose oversize Bradshaw bun thanks to this tutorial from the ever stylish B Jones

Anthropologie opened in Cincinnati maybe nine or ten years ago. This skirt was one of my very first Anthro purchases.

I've discovered the seventh circle of hell-prom season! Specifically, prom moms...ahhhh!

Let me rant for a moment about these women that come in to order to corsages for their sons or daughters bringing the dress, shoes and jewelry, wanting to walk through the cooler and find out specifically what flowers will be used, which ribbon and wristband! They want to make sure "it's special enough".

I had a lady tell me today the corsage was not what she expected...ummm, 1.it's not for you so who gives a rats a** what you expected and 2.it's freakin flowers on a wristband!!!!

I feel like I'm letting you guys down but I have a feeling that an easy dress and cardigan is going to become my summer uniform.

I've never been a huge a fan of pants or jeans and feel most comfy in a dress. I finally broke in these. Yay for not having to wear my clunky Dansko clogs all day, everyday!!

I feel like I'm "that" friend. You know the one. She gets a boyfriend and becomes totally consumed by the relationship.

This job is the new boyfriend and it has taken up all of time. I've finally found something that I love! I've been working 10 hour days thanks to admin week, Mother's Day ,prom season and weddings.

The exhaustion can't dampen my excitement when I walk into the cooler everyday.

I've been working so hard and spending so much time away from my family I've started to ask myself when I should take leap and go into business for myself. I don't mind hard work and sacrifice but why should I do all of it for the benefit of someone else?

In my head and my heart, I've always known what I wanted to do. Fear has stopped me. Made me doubt my judgement and question my abilities.

So much good stuff this weekend!

This weekend the husband and I say celebrated our first anniversary!

There was so much going on downtown over the weekend-a Reds game,the Flying Pig Marathon and the ballet.

We decided to spend the night at The Westin, grab a bite to eat and see the Cincinnati Ballet's final performance of the season.

We chilled a bottle of prosecco to toast our year. Instead of saving the top layer of our wedding cake, Becca from Sweetwater Bakehouse, baked us an anniversary layer and I made myself a mini bouquet.

We usually try to eat at locally owned independent restaurants. But, our fave downtown place, Nada, is a mexican restaurant. Spicy and sitting through a ballet ain't pretty, ya know?!

I decided to try to the Spanish wine tasting. I asked our server if it was too much for one person. She said no. Clearly,she gets her drink on;)

One year ago today, I married the love of my life!

I don't know if I have the words to adequately describe how much I love you.

I know it's cliche to say that I love more today than I did on that amazing day.

I used to dream of what our wedding day would be like and what it would be like to finally be your wife.

My dreams pale in comparison to our reality.

They say the first year of marriage is the hardest. We have certainly have some challenges this year(parenting and step parenting!) but we have handled them and grown stronger.

Since I had some errands to run downtown the husband and I decided to hunt for our favorite food truck.

We were super bummed when we learned they were closed today because of the rain. Making the best of it we decided to try Tom+Chee. Gourmet grilled and soup. Yes, please!!

I had the creamy tomato bisque and the grilled mac and cheese with bacon. Yummy!! And perfect for a rainy Tuesday.

The husband had the chipotle cheddar soup and the grilled cheese with peppers, onion and pepperoni. He shared his soup with me. Isn't he a sweetie!?

Things I learned today:

Garden roses are lovely and smell so good. They also leave a sneezing and snotty mess! Attractive...not so much:(

I should stick to take outfit pics in the morning because I look super tired. And, I forgot to reapply my new and fantastic pink lipstick.

For most of the day I thought it was Friday. To say that I was bummed when I realized it was only Thursday is an understatement.

The husband took the cover off the pool. This made me realize that swimsuit season is quickly approaching. This probably means I should stop eating my body weight in coconut m&m's, get off my bum and workout but yeah, m&m's and Bones equals a much better Thursday night;)

I'm only slightly mortified that we still have a Christmas doormat at our front door!

So glad to have a day off to recharge and get some perspective. I had a great lunch with a friend today.(Thanks K!!)It's always fantastic to get someone else's point of view on some stuff you've had going on in your head.

I was determined to wear this dress today so I was more than a little disappointed when the cooler weather made an appearance. As it turns out, I love this version more than the way I'd originally planned on wearing it. I wish the pics turned out better. I asked my husband to take them and I'm still getting used to having an actual person behind the lens and not using my timer. So, yeah...Awkward! He thinks I should smile more so I don't look so sad. Is it weird that I don't really know how to smile? If I'm laughing or you catch me mid emotion it's all good but as far as smiling for the camera-it's a little bit scary, Stepford wife!

Today it finally felt like spring-glorious,sun shining,birds chirping,flowers blooming spring!!

Now I'm off so I can enjoy my last night of trash tv without guilt before hubby returns tomorrow. I'm hoping I can stay awake long enough to enjoy the return of the New York housewives. I took some advice from commenters and purchased a pair of Dansko clogs to wear to work. I was 100% confident in my ability to create an outfit around anything. These clogs...not so much! I've settled into a daily uniform of skinny ankle jeans, blousey top, cardigan and dansko clogs. Not very exciting stuff:(

Today was rare day off. The husband is out of town for work so instead of spending my day off with him and doing stuff around I decided to meet the bff for lunch at a new sushi place. Donning a pretty vintage skirt, ridiculously high heels,catching up on life, indulging in a post sushi cupcake and paging through my guilty pleasure UsWeekly is just what the doctor ordered to make me feel like my old self.

This is the first time my husband and I have been away from each for more than a night. I miss him like crazy but I confess I'm loving watching all of my tv shows in bed while surfing the internet!

Friday, it's Friday....

No, I haven't seen youtube's newest sensation but husband has and his new favorite thing to do is to walk around belting out that little ditty by Rebecca Black! But he's so cute I can't get annoyed:D

I need a little help. I'm on my feet all day. I'm standing and running for 8 or 9 hours a day. I'm in desperate need of shoes! I need shoes that I can wear everyday. I've tried wearing inserts and they work pretty well but by hour 6 the feet are getting a little achy.

I can't wear flats because they don't have enough support.

I'm not opposed to a clog but I need some recommendations. I've been looking at kork-ease but of course they pair I want is sold out in my size:(

Hello, Hello....is this thing on?

Sorry for the radio silence but sometimes it's nice to unplug.

There's been so much going on in the world and personally that it seemed a little disingenuous to post outfits. Especially, when I've hit a major creative slump.

I love, love, love clothes, getting dressed and pulling things together. I always have and I always will. I've been so busy with work, taking on side jobs and spending time with the family that clothes and shopping have fallen to the bottom of my list of priorities(shocking!)

Mondays are tough days at work. We get a huge shipment of fresh cut flowers. This means I'm spending a lot of time in the cooler, cleaning and prepping buckets of water. I was going for comfort and trying not to look like a total slob. A closet clean up this weekend reminded that I loved this little top. It was the perfect outfit to kick off the week!

1. When it comes to prioritizing your life, where does blogging fall?

I'm juggling a lot lately. I don't really believing in the concept of multi tasking. It's too much like being a jack of all trades and master of none. I prefer to do one thing at a time and at least try to master it.

I'm still a newlywed and a mom. I have a new career path I'm trying to flesh out and develop. So right now blogging is the low on the to-do list.

I wish I had more time to devote to it or could figure out a way to organize myself better. I'm open to suggestions:)

2. We all wish we had more free time to dedicate to blogging and all it entails. What are your tricks for taking advantage of the time you have and being more productive?

See first answer. I have no tools or tricks and often like I'm playing catch up. So, I'm very interested in reading how other bloggers stay ahead of game.

3. Have you discovered any shortcuts that makes blogging easier or more time effective?

I know there are lots of bloggers that plan or schedule posts. I've thought a lot about things I want to include on my blog. If I ever get my act together and implement some of them, scheduling posts will make things easier. As it stands, this is basically a style journal. It's virtually impossible to journal about things that haven't yet happened.

I usually try to find 15-20 minutes to snap a few picks during the day and 15-20 to write the post in the early evening. Hmmmm, writing that down makes me a little sad. I really do love blogging. When you love something shouldn't you put more time and effort into it?

4. Do you have an editorial calender or something similar that helps you plan ahead?

So I've clearly established that planning ahead(in some aspects of my life) is not my strong suit. I have seen a few editorial resources out there specifically geared toward fashion/style bloggers. I tend to write out a few outfit ideas whenever inspiration strikes so that when I'm at a loss I have somewhere to start.

Typically, these "outfit notes" serve as a starting point. 95% of the time the outfit I end up wearing bears very little resemblance to my initial idea.

5. If time wasn't an issue, what would you be doing on/for your blog that you are not doing now?

So much! I would be doing restaurant and recipe posts. I enjoy cooking(most of the time) and really try hard to feed my family yummy meals that are cost effective(which can be hard for a family of 6). The husband and I also really love going to great locally owned restaurants in the city. I'd love to post these as well. I read lots of blogs that include daily life type posts. I love those! If time were not an issue I think I'd make this more of a "lifestyle"(for lack of a better word) blog. Of course, I don't know that anyone would care to read about all of that stuff.

Today was one of those glorious days that reminds you Spring is almost here. The sun was out, temps were just warm enough for bare legs and I can see my tulips starting to come up!

Yesterday I wore wedges all day. I was on my feet for literally seven hours and while I wasn't in any pain, I decided to rest my feet today. There's something about wearing sneakers with a skirt that makes me feel like a kid in the best possible way:) I fell in love with this skirt because it reminds me of a vintage apron. Small confession: part of me wants to live in a little farmhouse on a couple of acres where I can bake pies and bread(wearing adorable aprons, of course!) all day.

I'm so proud that I shopped my closet! This skirt and sweater are way old. I forgot that I had this sweater. I love the little bird at the shoulder. I bought it in another color too. Which you may or may not be seeing tomorrow;)

There's finally a new episode of Glee tonight! So, I'm off to set my Glee on.

I don't think all outfits are blog worthy, especially super casual ones. Maybe because I struggle the most with dressing down.

There are some days I can get away with dressing up a little but because Mondays are so busy I need to be really comfortable. I kind of like this outfit(I think). I'm still searching for the perfect flared jeans. I have my eye on the high waisted,flared jeans at the Gap(but my size is sold out online). Has anyone tried these? Reviews?

So, it's Friday! I would let out a huge sigh of relief but, I have to work this weekend. Boo! Not really. I will miss relaxing on Sunday while the mister makes me waffles:(

It was cool, rainy and an all around miserable day. I needed a shot of color and a dose of whimsy today. Cue the bright, borderline clashing colors and an umbrella with hearts:D

I originally planned to wear this without the tights. I love the way it looks with bare legs. But, then I walked outside! Brrr...not quite warm enough today so it's back to the tights(boo!hiss!).

How do you put your outfits together? I usually have one thing that I kind of obsess about wearing and then build the rest of the outfit around it. Ha! That sounds like I know what I'm doing. What this means is I typically stand in my closet in whatever it is I'm trying to wear and frantically grab at things I think will not look crazy when paired wit it:D

This polka dot top has been begging me for to wear it for a week. The last time I wore it, I paired it with jeans. I wasn't in love with the way it looked. I was determined to find a way to make it feel more "me". It has a little bit of length on it so I decided to tuck it into the skirt and belt it. I love the combination of polka dots and florals and the greys,blacks and greens. It feels spring-y but I'm not freezing my buns off!

Today is a well deserved day off! I'm exhausted but happy to be spending the day with the husband.
Sunshine and warm temps have decided to make a cameo appearance. Bright and cheerful was the order for the day. Enter, the most obnoxiously vibrant skirt I own! It really is kind of traffic cone orange and I'm okay with it:) And what goes with orange? Mint green and polka dots, of course! I wish I had a better detail shot of the top. It's kind of a creamy ivory with tiny polka dots. But, I was in such a hurry to enjoy my afternoon that I didn't feel like retaking the pics.

Speaking of pictures...I usually take my own pics with a camera, tripod and self timer but today i asked my husband to take them. At the last minute I chickened out because I thought it would be too awkward. He threatened to turn on a fan, mist me with water and scream things 'like make love to the camera!" at me. Ha! He cracks me up but I think I'll stick to taking them myself:D

First, let me say thank you so much for all of your kind words, thoughts, prayers and condolences. I appreciate them more than you'll ever know.

My arm is finally feeling less tender! I'm hoping I'll be able to work out tomorrow.

It goes without saying this has been a tough week. I wanted to put on something that made me feel pretty. Nothing says pretty like a beaded skirt! I bought this skirt a million years ago and it's like four sizes too big. Seriously, I have it pinned under my boobs:O This anthro cardigan has been a go to sweater for me. Once again, an item that never was on my radar until it hit the sale rack has become a wardrobe all-star.

I downloaded the new Adele cd and have become obsessed with it! Her first album was fantastic and the new is even better. How is that possible!? I think it's time to veg out a little, listen to some music and read one of the 15 magazines I've been hoarding.

This is my dad's sister.

She passed away suddenly Sunday.
A few years ago, she moved here from Akron. I'm so happy I got the chance to spend more time with her. I remember the first time she met Doug. "You have the most beautiful blue eyes!", she told him. "Auntie are you flirting with my man?", I asked. She responded with her trademark, contagious laughter "I'm a mess, aren't I?"

She was able to come to our wedding and I will be forever grateful for that.

These were taken on Saturday during our last few hours of sunshine and springlike temps. Winter is back and so is that melancholy feeling.

Saturday night I sliced into my finger and had to go to the ER to get stitches..boo! Even worse, they gave me a tetanus shot and I had a bad reaction to it(chills,fever,very upset stomach). Ughhh..my arm feels like I'm recovering from a gun shot instead of a vaccination!

Time for another dose of advil and bed.

Today we had a little taste of spring with sunny skies and temps in the 60s. This gave me an excuse to break out these shoes. I bought them from Gilt months ago and they've been patiently waiting in their debut. I'm pretty sure February is too early for bare legs and sandals but I couldn't help myself! I just wanted to wear something happy and this dress does it every time.
I don't know about you but I'm looking forward to doing absolutely nothing this weekend!

Thank you for all of your sweet words and well wishes yesterday! I'm so excited and hopeful about what this opportunity may bring into my life. But yesterday was so busy. And, exhausted is not the word! Can you see it on my face in the last picture? So yeah...the outfit.

Until I started reading blogs I never would have thought to tuck the top part of this strapless dress into my skirt and wear it as a skirt. Maybe I still have a little v day love hangover because I'm loving the combination of red and pink. Pink and red, florals, stripes and polka dots......craaazzzzyyy...crazy awesome!

My dear, sweet, polka dot tights, I owe you a huge apology for allowing you languish in my dresser drawer and ignoring you for your brightly colored kin. I was seriously unaware of the awesome you pack in one powerful polka dot punch!

Last week a really good opportunity fell into my lap. For the last year I've been wondering if the florist thing was really what I wanted to do. I have a way of romanticizing things without giving any thought to what is really involved in doing the job. Yes, I love creating and I love flowers but is the day to day something I can deal with? Last week I got a job with a florist! It's not the dream job...yet, but it is a great way to get some practical experience. It's not with the floral designer that I loooove(and if she ever had a position open up I'd take it in a heartbeat!) Here's the thing working at a florist the week before Valentine's Day...insaaaane!! Waking up at 5 to work out, a 45 min commute, long days spent mostly on my feet and I really like it:)

So, there was no time for blog reading and posting. I missed it so much! I also spent all week in jeans and t shirts. But, today is Valentine's Day!! How could I not put on a little somethin' pretty today?

When I saw this dress in Small Earth vintage on etsy I was smitten! Hearts and a vibrant color palette? Yes please! I was determined to wear my Dorothy Christmas shoes. It's been so cold and there's been soooo much snow that I had no choice but to tuck these lovelies away in the box -so sad, no? But today is Valentine's Day and I'll sparkle if I want to!

We don't really do much in terms of celebrating but who needs candy hearts and cliche roses when I get to come home everyday look into those baby blues, kiss, cuddle, plan our future, whisper sweet nothings, make dinners, laugh, hold hands and grow old together....

Andie a member of Friend Friday wanted to do something special to promote Feburary as Heart Healthy month. Going along with the AHA fabulous "Going Red" Campaign it was decided that we would wear red every Fiday in Febuary.

I was shocked to learn that heart disease is the prevailing cause of death for African-American women. It is so important that we educate ourselves about the benefits of a healthy diet and excercise. As a wife and a mother, I realize that most of the time we put ourselves at the bottom of the priority list. If we want to take care of our families, we have to start taking care of ourselves!

I'm so happy to be able to participate.

Red is one of my favorite colors! I know lots of us are afraid to wear it because it commands attention. But, I think every women looks beautiful in red. Today, let's add a little red{dress, lipstick,nails,whatever}.

Hello there! Can we breathe a big sigh of relief that this week is almost dunzo!?

It has been an exceptionally hard week for me.

I think if you ask people that know me the consensus would be that I'm an outgoing person-a little self deprecating and never with out an opinion. In some cases this is absolutely true. I want people to enjoy being around me and have a good time. I hate awkward so I think I go out of my way to make people feel comfortable. However, I am a fairly solitary person. I sometimes find face to face interaction exhausting(because of my need to entertain). My circle of close friends is very small. I'm content to stay in, read or watch television. I'm really quite happy to be alone. I think this is why I internalize things that are going on around me in a way that can be torturous. On the outside I'm officially a grown up but inside I still feel like an angst-y teenager!

There are some things-personal things-that happened this week that have hit me hard. I don't want to sound melodramatic and everyone is healthy so please don't worry. But, this week I've been constantly reminding myself of that quote "comparison is the thief of joy". I have so much to be thankful and joyful about but for some reason I let the negative tapes play in my head and get top billing. I think last night I finally turned the page on most of what I've been trying to process so I'm hoping the rest of the week is easy, breezy:)

Several months ago, I sent out an APB for Antho's glimmering magnolia dress. It was the one that got away. A lovely reader, Diem, contacted me and let me know that she had "the dress" in my size, brand new, never worn, with the tags still attached. She sold it to me for a song!! I had intended to wear it to my brother-in-law's wedding but ended up wearing something else. This weekend I decided to break it out! Gah!!!I love it so much! I didn't get a chance to take pictures until late in the evening so I'm kind of disappointed with how these turned out.

I felt so pretty in this outfit. Perfect for an early evening dinner with my parents.

A few weeks ago I was contacted to do flowers for an 8oth birthday party. The birthday girl celebrated with her family Saturday.

These are some of the arrangements I designed. Because I'm kind of a novice I thought simple would be best. I did three large arrangements with baby's breath(which I'm loving!!!They looked like a beautiful cloud!) and several small arrangement with my favorites, blue hydrangea! I also decorated the fireplace of the venue with a baby's breath garland(but forgot to take pics..oops!)

I was very nervous and really wanted them to love everything. They did! Even though my stomach was in a nervous knot, I had such a wonderful time working and creating.

Kim at Anthroholic is one of my daily reads. She has such a femine and ladylike style. She also puts together the most lovely color stories. When I saw this outfit I knew that I wanted to create a similar look with things I had in my closet. The colors-mustard and shades of blue- are some of my favorites and the slightly nautical reference is pure genius! I purchased this little mustard skirt from f21 because I was drawn to color but I wasn't really sure how to wear it. Kim's sweater is similar to one I purchased at f21(I know!) but had so far only worn it with jeans. Navy tights and these nubuck wedges make it a little more casual.

It's funny this outfit isn't what I'd call spectacular. There's nothing particularly special about it but when I put it on this morning it felt really good and I think when I look at these pictures I love it even more{funny how red lips and pearls can make anything look good}! These jeans were on sale and the gray wash was kind of intriguing. When I tried them on the fact that they have a higher waist is what sold me. Three cheers for not having to worry about your muffin top hanging out!!! I'm also having an intense love affair with this golden yellow color. I can't seem to get enough of it. The stripes and the super soft cotton are just icing on the cake;)

This week seems to move so slowly! I'm exhausted and I have no idea why? If I had to guess, I'd say the long, cold days are getting to me. Come on Mother Nature, give a girl a break!!

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? I went out for a girls night on Friday. It felt nice to get dressed, shake off the winter blahs and hang with the girls:) Saturday was a date night with the hubby. That's right, I went out two consecutive nights in row! What...didn't think I still had it in me:0 Of course I spent most of the day Sunday sleeping and recovering...ha!

So these tights,um, kinda love 'em and kind of look at them and shake my head. Of course the color and the delicate rose pattern drew me in. They've been languishing in my dresser feeling unloved because what in the world could I pair with them. I think this fairly neutral color palette and the softness of everything works so well and lets the tights be the stand out.

I'm off to all the mundane things I should have yesterday but didn't because I was so ~~hungover~~ tired;)

Today I'd planned on going to the Contemporary Arts Center but I woke up from a bad dream that put me in an unpleasant mood and the thought of battling the crowds(free admission today) seemed overwhelming! Instead I put on a pretty dress, went for coffee with my love and finally started reading Jonathan Franzen's Freedom-75 pages in and I'm loving it!

There are things, worries, and concerns that keep me up at night and perhaps a fashion blog seems an inappropriate forum to discuss these topics which is why I keep them to myself.

My parents were part of the civil rights movement in their hometown. I think that's why it seemed so real to me and not a part of ancient history. I've always been aware of the real life sacrifices that were made for me to have the kind of upbringing I was lucky enough to have.

As part of interracial couple in a city where this can still raise some eyebrows, I sometimes am acutely aware of how much work is left to do. And sometimes this makes me very sad. Then I look around. We have created a family that sees love before color. We have created friendships that while based on commonalities, also celebrates our differences. No matter what the nightly news tells me I believe in the goodness of people and that love will always triumph over hate. Happy Birthday Dr. King and thank you!

Happy, happy Friday!! Weekend plans anyone, anyone, Bueller, Bueller? So far we have nothing planned. I may try to catch a movie tomorrow but I haven't decided what I want to see. I'm also going to attempt to bake macarons! What the what!? Baking is not really my thing but I love them so! I mean, how hard could it be? Ha! Famous last words...right?

This afternoon I have a meeting. I've been hired to do the flowers/tablescapes for an 80th birthday celebration! A group of siblings are throwing a big bash for their mom's 80th and they want me to do the florals!!!Woohooo! I'm so excited! I'm hoping everything goes well{keep your fingers crossed}.

Lately, I haven't really been happy with my outfits or excited to get dressed. I think having to dress for the bitter cold is messing with me. Today I decided to kick the winter blahs in the face! This is essentially a spring/summer skirt but because it's a heavier fabric I think it works for winter. All of the colors make me happy:) The ivory cable knit sweater is warm(a must) and dials down the intensity of some of the colors. It's January in Ohio so tights and boots are a given-although I stare at my my peep toes and strappy sandals wistfully everyday;)

There are only 66 days until the first day of spring!!So,Think warm thoughts my friends!

All of this snow is really interfering with my right to wear cute shoes! Mother Nature is a woman so you'd think she's have a little empathy! Don't get me wrong I really love these boots, but all my pretty sparkly heels are starting to feel neglected;)

In an effort to not wear those ridiculously comfortable cargo pants again today, I went with a dress{or a longish shirt}. This outfit feels a little 90s grunge to me with the short floral like dress and the motorcycle boots. You know I had to disco ball it up with the sparkle belt and glittery tights. I'm pretty sure this ensemble is going to get the husband headshake-which he does when he doesn't really get what I'm wearing. He'll also ask me if I'm so cold why am I wearing a dress-boys just don't get it, do they?

I really wish I had something more interesting to tell ya today. I think the cold is freezing my brain:(
