reality bites

Last week we packed up and got the hell out of Dodge for a much needed vacation!

Of course, things never go as smoothly as you plan them. Friday night we ended up rushing Henry to the vet. He was making an awful coughing/wheezing/is there a squeaky toy is in his gut sound. The diagnosis, pneumonia:( He ended up spending the night at the hospital so that they could give him fluids and oxygen. They released him to us with orders to give him antibiotics and steam treatments twice a pay. So, yeah, the dog ended up going on vacation with us.  Despite that minor crisis we had a lovely time in Saugatuck, Michigan. There was plenty of hand-holding, beer drinking, beach walking and musings on buying our own little cottage on the lake...but, it's nice to be back home:)...I think...

I immediately jumped back into work. There are one or two things I want to share from vacation that I think deserve a separate post, but instead of a boring photo heavy vacation post, here are a few insta snaps of our trip.

lately...

                                                            photo found here

I'm headed out of town for a few days for a much needed vacation with my husband! Just the two of us in a lovely little cottage on Lake Michigan. Did I mention, it's just the two of us?!!

Anyway, here are few things that have caught my attention lately...

I've been reading the Biz Ladies column on design*sponge. This one in particular about knowing your value struck a nerve{I'm struggling with that BIG time!}. There's lots of good stuff there for small business owners.

Masterpiece Theater's,Sherlock. If you haven't watched this you should! Season 1 has 3 episodes on netflix and Season 2 has 3 episodes available to watch on PBS . I watched them all in a day and now I'm anxiously awaiting Season 3!

Regina Spektor. I downloaded her new album What We Saw From the Cheap Seats and have been listening to it nonstop.

Have a good weekend! See ya on the flip side, my friends:)

minted

These days, simpler feels right. Everything else feels...contrived or forced in some way. Like it's too much, you know? I think I like this back to the basics me. Of course, basic doesn't mean I can't have sparkly shoes, an arm full of bracelets and minty nails to match my jeans!

pink lady

I know it's past the point of ri-damn-diculous! I can't help myself. If it's in this bright-neon-azeala pink I will buy it. I'm not even going to try to make any lame apologies. If lovin' you is wrong, I don't wanna be right! A rainy start to the week demands bright colors and take no prisoners ballet flats,am I right?

she's got game

For me the weekend meant doing a whole lotta nothin'. Hello double edged sword. So nice to meet you! It's good to have a weekend off to relax, slow things down, drink a strawberry beer or three{hello new obsession!} and watch the entire first season of Mad Men on netflix-ohmygod...the last two episodes of this season have been two of the best hours of television...ever! On the other hand, as a business owner, if you're not working than you're not making any money. There's no" if this sh*t were mine I'd do" this, or complaining about the man keeping you down because you're in charge and you're the man(so to speak). So yeah, as great and low key as the weekend was I would have rather been getting my flower hustle on!

Hello Monday! Time to get my head back in the game:)

picnics in the park

One of my favorite things about working from is that I get to see my husband! His work schedule is strange and his "weekend" is essentially Sunday-Tuesday with an occasional Wednesday. Yesterday he suggested we have picnic for lunch. He is the sweetest! We packed up a few things-cheese, bread, some fruit, a bottle of wine and the scrabble board-and headed to the park.

Perfect weather. Tasty food. Great company. Awesome afternoon!

neon know-it-all

Did you think my blogging break would cure my love of all things neon? Not even close! I have to stop myself from wearing this dress  everyday. You really can't get the full effect of it's neon awesome-ness in these pictures. But trust me when I say it's like...Bam! The color combined with the fact that it's insanely comfortable makes me feel like I'm wearing my pj's even when I look (mostly) presentable.

Over the weekend I wore a pair of heels for the first time in a long time.  I've been missing all of those occasions that make me want to get dressed up. It was nice to do the full on hair/makeup/dress/heels thing, but I have to admit, I couldn't wait to slip the chucks back on. That's right...me lovin' flats! What kind of craazy world are we livin' in?!

another milestone

Can I just take a moment to rant?! Sunday my youngest daughter graduated from high school. I will get to the proud Mama stuff in a moment(if you're interested in that stuff scroll past my rant....

Her Senior class had 600 or so students. I graduated from a school with about 700 students in all of it's k-12 grades. Because there are so many kids the graduation is held in the sports complex of Miami University. I'm not sure if it's the arena like atmosphere that contributes to the lack of decorum or if it's just indicative of the casualization of American society but it made my head explode. I'm not just talking about the lack of dress code. I'm not saying that everyone should have worn suits and dresses but I saw baseball jerseys/jean shorts, concert t's(with cut off sleeves)/jeans, booty shorts/tube tops/platforms,a see through dress with a thong underneath and my all time favorite a tank top/jean shorts/suspender combination! Seriously?! This does not include the cheering, whistling and air horn-ing when specifically asked to refrain from such shenanigans. I don't know if people were confused about what kind of event they were attending but my mind was kind blown!

How can we expect our kids to have sort of respect and boundaries when the adults in the situation are giving them this kind of crap to model! Or, am I just too old school?

Enough of that...here are a few pics I managed to snap.

Congrats baby girl! I am infinitely proud of you and all of your accomplishments. We fight like crazy but that's only because I see the greatness in you and I don't want you sell yourself short. Now, go do big things!

*just in case you're keeping score that's 3 graduations in 3 years! One more to go:)

best laid plans

Sorry for the radio silence! There's been a whole lot of this....

    *volvo locked and loaded!

and not much else!

Clearly I failed my blogging challenge:( But in my defense, I made it through the last (and biggest) prom of the season, quit my full time job to work for myself full time(!), hosted our family for Memorial day,had my first big business owner weekend-wedding, graduation party and birthday party, and saw two of my daughters graduate-one from the Paul Mitchell School and the other from high school!

Flower updates are here but I'll be back to semi  sporadic regular posting soon:)
